No sooner had I publicized the fact that a very old photo of the (named) pupils of Drimina National School existed, dating from the 1920’s, and not one, but two, even older photos come to light from the relatively small Kilmacteigue RC Parish in South County Sligo. The photo below features the pupils in attendance at the tiny Largan National School overlooking the beautiful Lough Talt in November 1913. As you will see, a name has been put to each schoolchild. Do you know any of these families? Were they your ancestors?

The next day, the unknown professional photographer set up his tripod at nearby Kilmactigue National School. This excellent photo was the result:
I believe Tom Cooke, who is second from left is my grandfather.
Yes I know all of the Quinns listed – all deceased Martin in WW1 aged 19 and Kate is my Grandmother, Delia is also deceased with descendants in New York.
Yes I know everyone of their names and the places they came from around Lough Talt and Mountaffe, the Deehans and the Murray’s mentioned are my Uncle’s and Aunt’s on both sides. I would also know where all those people emigrated to, the U.S and England, mostly to America , I would have met some of them when home on holidays in the 50s and 60s This is a copy of the original I got from my Aunt Mary Murray in New York early 80s. My Uncle Alfred Murray named all but one of them, good going I thought. Thanks for posting Im sure it will bring back fond memories for many people.
On a different note there was another old school on the Mountaffe road above 400 yards passed the Church. This was closed in 1898 as far as I know when the new school beside the Church. Would you have any idea where I could get details or records of same.
Thank you for your interest.
Kind regards,
Alfie Deehan.
